Men's soccer falls at home

Geneva scores two late goals to down Waynesburg 2-0

Box Score

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 17) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team was locked in a 0-0 tie with visiting Geneva for most of Tuesday night's game at John F. Wiley Stadium. Unfortunately, the Golden Tornadoes finally broke through for a pair of goals, which were more than enough to defeat the Yellow Jackets 2-0.

Waynesburg (6-7-1, 1-3-1) kept Geneva (8-5-3, 4-1-1) off the scoreboard until the 74th minute, when the Golden Tornadoes scored the first goal of the night following a Waynesburg yellow card. The visitors tacked on an insurance goal during the 79th minute of action to put the game out of reach.

Sophomore Waynesburg goalkeeper Brandon Daughtry stopped seven shots on the night, but the Jackets were out-shot 17-to-one in the loss. Geneva also held a sizeable advantage (nine-to-two) in corner kicks.

The Jackets are back in action on Friday, Oct. 19, when they play host to Washington & Jefferson. Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
