Men's soccer battles to scoreless draw

Waynesburg and Thiel slug it out for 110 minutes in PAC showdown

Box Score

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 2) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team began Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Thiel College. The Yellow Jackets and Tomcats not only played 90 minutes of regulation play, but 20 extra minutes over two overtime periods. After 110 minutes of action, neither team was able to find the back of the net and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

The tie was Waynesburg's (5-4-1, 0-0-1) first such occurrence since the 2010 season, when the Yellow Jackets tied Defiance College 1-1. It was Thiel's (4-6-2, 0-1-1) second draw of the year. Waynesburg came close to breaking open the 0-0 tie on multiple occasions, including a strong scoring opportunity in the 23rd minute of the second half and a second close call with just over a minute left to play in the second overtime period.

Freshman Victor Browne attempted a team-high three shots for the Yellow Jackets. Sophomore goalkeeper Brandon Daughtry put together another impressive showing during his first year as a starter by shutting out his opposition for the sixth time in 2012. Daughtry recorded three saves on the day.

Waynesburg is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 6, when the Jackets hit the road to face Grove City. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
