BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (March 31) – The 2012 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule got off to a rough start for the Waynesburg University softball team, which traveled to Geneva College on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets (11-9, 0-2) were swept by the Golden Tornadoes (14-10, 2-0) by the final scores of 3-2 and 15-5. Waynesburg hung around in game one despite being out-hit 9-4 by its opposition and was locked in a 2-2 tie in the first half of the fourth inning. Geneva scored the game-deciding run in the bottom of the fourth to pull out the one-run victory. The Jackets had the game-tying run at third base with two outs on the board in the top of the seventh, but were unable to get the runner home.

Sophomore Carrie Maier started and worked all six innings in the circle during the opener. The Greensburg native notched four strikeouts and walked five.

Game two didn't go nearly as well for the visiting team as the Tornadoes staked a 12-1 lead after three innings of action and moved ahead 15-1 before Waynesburg posted four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Geneva did most of its damage in the top of the third, where they recorded nine runs as 14 batters came to the plate.

Freshman Jenn Ling started and suffered the loss for Waynesburg after giving up eight runs, six of which were earned, on six hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Freshmen Ashley Clark and Shelby Tabrosky recorded two hits on the day, while sophomore Jenn Dorazio connected on her second homerun of the season. The Yellow Jackets will take another shot at their first PAC win on Tuesday, April 3, when they play host to Thomas More. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
