WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 29) – The Waynesburg University women's softball team wrapped up its 2012 season on Sunday by splitting a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Washington & Jefferson. W&J grabbed a 9-7 victory in the opener, but the Yellow Jackets rebounded to end the year with an impressive 8-0 triumph in the late game.

W&J (15-21, 9-9) opened game one with three runs in the bottom of the first before the Jackets (18-18, 7-11) responded with a run in the second inning, one in the fourth and two in the fifth that gave the visiting team a 4-3 advantage. Unfortunately, the Presidents combined six hits and two Waynesburg errors in the bottom of the sixth to post six runs and go up 9-4.

The Jackets attempted a comeback in the top of the seventh with a three-run homer from sophomore right fielder Jenna Dorazio, her second of the game, that trimmed the lead down to just two runs. Unfortunately, that was as far as Waynesburg's comeback attempt came to fruition.

Sophomore Carrie Maier started in the pitching circle and suffered the loss after giving up nine runs, six of which were earned, on 10 hits and a walk over six innings pitched.

Things went much more smoothly for the Jackets in game two as freshman Jenn Lingg put together her best performance of the season in the circle during the 8-0 victory that took five innings to complete. Waynesburg also out-hit its opposition by a seven-to-two deficit.

The Jacket bats came to life in the bottom of the second, when they plated three runs on three hits, three walks and an error. One of those hits was a two-out single by sophomore leftfielder Jasmine Blackwell. Freshman centerfielder Emily Sorton also picked up an RBI with a one-base hit of her own.

Two innings later, Waynesburg added its fourth run of the day when sophomore catcher Madison Presto singled in Sorton. The first-year outfielder scored her third run of the game and recorded her first RBI of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Lingg tossed five innings of two-hit ball to pick up the victory. She didn't walk a batter and struck out two Presidents.

Blackwell and Dorazio led the Jackets at the plate by driving in five runs each for the day. Dorazio did all of her damage in the early game, during which she went four-for-four with her team-leading fourth and fifth homeruns of the season, three runs scored and Waynesburg's only stolen base on the day. Blackwell went three-for-six with three singles, while Presto, senior Sam Volponi, junior Rachael Moon and freshman Haley Payne scored two runs each.
