WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 5) – The Waynesburg University softball team dropped both games of its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader against Westminster College at Waynesburg on Thursday.

The Titans (14-10, 6-0) took down the Yellow Jackets (11-14, 0-6) by the final scores of 12-1 in six innings and 10-3. Westminster's current winning streak increased to 10-straight victories.

Westminster got off to a quick start, scoring seven runs in the first three innings to cruise to the game one victory. The Jackets starting pitcher for game one, sophomore Carrie Maier, took a hard line drive off of her leg after pitching to the first batter of the second inning, resulting in an early call to the bullpen. Freshman Jenn Lingg entered the game on short notice and pitched five innings, allowing seven runs (two earned) on 10 hits with one strikeout.

The Jackets collected six hits at the plate in the opener and were led by junior Rachael Moon, who went two-for-three with a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning, which accounted for the home team's only win of the loss.

In game two, Waynesburg took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, when sophomore second baseman Shannon Falleroni smacked a base hit up the middle to score freshman centerfielder Shelby Tabrosky, who reached on a single of her own. Westminster evened the contest in the bottom of the fourth with a RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.

Not to be outdone, Waynesburg added two runs, one of which came on a Madison Presto double, in the top of the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead. However, the Titans had more than an answer to the lead, as they piled up nine runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning to secure the win.

Freshman Haley Payne took the loss in the circle, as she pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five runs on five hits while walking six and striking out one. Three different Jackets had multi-hit games, including Payne, who went two-for-four. Falleroni went two-for-four with an RBI and Tabrosky added a two-for-three effort with a run scored. The Jacket actually matched the Titans with eight hits each, but the home team stranded seven base runners.

The Jackets will look to rebound at home on Wednesday, April 11, when the Saint Vincent Bearcats come to Waynesburg for a PAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
