Record number of Jackets heading to RPI

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (May 16) – As has become its tradition, the Waynesburg University men's and women's track teams will send a record number of representatives to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The event will be hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Thursday, May 17, and Friday, May 18.

A total of 16 Yellow Jackets (nine women, seven men) are scheduled to make the trip to Troy, N.Y. to compete in 13 different events. Leading the way is a pair of competitors who qualified in three and four different events, respectively. Junior Rhea Huwe will be pulling triple duty for the women, while freshman Byrum Louco surpassed qualifying marks in four events. Huwe will be running in the 100 and 200-meter sprints, while also making up one fourth of the Jacket 4x100 relay team. Louco will take part in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, while also qualifying for the 400 meters and the 400-meter hurdles.

Both the Jacket men and women feature multiple two-event competitors. On the men's side, sophomore Steven Snow will run in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, while sophomore Justin Angotti is expected to compete in the 4x400 and the 800 meters. The women feature junior Megan Donovan, who will be in the field for both the 4x800 relay and the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while freshman Waynesburg native Ashley Cole will make up part of the team's 4x100 relay squad and run in the 100-meter hurdles.

The rest of the Jacket contingency is made up of single-event qualifiers. Men's representatives include junior Christian Jackson, sophomore Marvin Sampson and freshman Lorenzo Mikulin, who will complete the 4x100 relay team, and junior Kurt Bonnet, who makes a return trip to the event in the discus. On the women's side, freshman Joy Talbott, junior Bre Paul and freshman Kristen Sanders will all run in the 4x800, while freshman Hannah Derbis and junior Jaimee Post complete the 4x100 team. Waynesburg will have a representative in the field events as sophomore Megan Sowers, who has a strong possibility of competing in the Division III Outdoor National Championships, will be throwing the javelin.
