PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Sept. 29) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team opened up Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play with a 2-0 shutout win over Chatham University on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets (5-5, 1-0) scored the eventual game-winning goal during the 12
th minute of play when sophomore
Emily Mullady picked up an unassisted score. Already up 1-0, Waynesburg doubled its advantage in the 34
th minute thanks to freshman Karleigh Murphy, who headed in a pass from junior
Susie Godwin to make it 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
The Yellow Jackets, who snapped a four-game losing streak with the win, completely dominated the ball, attempting 32 shots on the day, while allowing Chatham (2-5, 0-1) to fire off two attempts. The Jackets also took nine corner kicks, while the Cougars tried just a pair of kicks from the corner. Freshman
Ciara Scott stopped both Chatham shots to pick up the shutout victory. Chatham keeper Liz Sawyer did everything she could to lead her team to victory by piling up an impressive 19 saves in a losing effort.
Waynesburg will try to keep its winning ways going on Tuesday, Oct. 2, when the Jackets face Thiel in Greenville. It will be the fifth of five-straight road games for the Orange and Black.
