Men's soccer scores 7-0 victory over Thiel

Waynesburg rolls to fifth-straight win

Box Score

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 12) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team won its fifth-straight game and shut out its second-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent on Saturday by downing visiting Thiel College 7-0.

The victory also extended the Yellow Jackets' (9-1-1, 2-0) unbeaten streak to seven contests. Waynesburg got the eventual game-winning goal from senior Tim Fields, who scored early in the 12th minute after taking a pass from junior Cody Lemke and finding the back of the net. The home team doubled its advantage to 2-0 before halftime when senior Anthony MacIntyre took a pass from sophomore Victor Browne and fired a shot past the Tomcat (5-8, 0-3) keeper.

The Jackets closed out the win with five second-half goals. Browne, junior Nick Brommer and junior James Sneed posted a goal each to make the score 5-0. Freshman Zack Benedict closed out the scoring with the two final tallies of the day.

Waynesburg's scoring barrage was more than enough support for the goalie duo of junior starter Brandon Daughtry and sophomore backup Nathan Ribar, which combined to 10 saves in the team's third shutout of the season. The Jackets out-shot the opposition by a 25-to-14 margin.

Waynesburg will look to stay undefeated in PAC play, when it travels to Bethany on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Start time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
