GROVE CITY, Pa. (Oct. 4) – Freshman
Dimitri Arvanitopulos picked a great time to score his first collegiate goal, as the Waynesburg University men's soccer team ended a long losing streak to Grove City College with a 1-0 victory at the Wolverines' home field.
Not only did Arvanitopulos' goal end a losing skid that stretched back to 2002, but it was the first tally for the Yellow Jackets (7-1-1, 1-0) against the Wolverines (3-5-2, 0-1) since 2005. The freshman reserve found the back of the net just before the end of the first half during the 44
th minute of action.
Arvanitopulos was backed up by junior keeper
Brandon Daughtry, who was stellar in net. The second-year starter stopped all five shots on goal that he faced. Waynesburg was able to score the victory despite being out-shot by a 25-to-12 margin.
The red hot Yellow Jackets will go for their fourth-straight win on Tuesday, Oct. 8, when they host Ohio Christian. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
