Men's soccer gets past Franciscan

Yellow Jackets take season opener 2-1

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Aug. 30) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in Friday's road game against Franciscan University and held on for a 2-1 win over the Barons. The contest served as the season opener for both teams.

After a scoreless first half, the Yellow Jackets (1-0) struck twice in the second period to take control of the game. Senior Anthony MacIntyre and junior James Sneed tallied the first goals of the season to put the visiting team up 2-0. Franciscan (0-1) scored in the 65th minute of play, but it was too little, too late, as the Orange and Black left Steubenville with the win.

Junior goalkeeper Brandon Daughtry started and made four saves in net to pick up the victory. Waynesburg out-shot Franciscan by a 28-10 margin. The Jackets also lined up for 12 corner kicks, to just two for the Barons.

A full box score of the win will be made available soon. Waynesburg returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 4, when it hosts its home-opener against Pitt-Greensburg. Start time is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
