WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 4) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team needed a little time to get its offense warmed up under chilly conditions at John F. Wiley Stadium on Wednesday night. However, once the Yellow Jackets finally scored the first goal of the game against Pitt Greensburg, they never let up and wound up notching a 6-0 victory over the Bobcats.
After neither team was able to find the back of the net for the entirety of the first half, Waynesburg (2-0) senior
Anthony MacIntyre buried the game's first goal during the 47
th minute of play after taking a feed from junior teammate
Nick Brommer. That tally opened the floodgates for the home team, which was relentless in its assault on the UPG (0-3) net.
Junior
James Sneed led the charge for the Orange and Black by notching a pair of goals, while junior
Cody Lemke, junior
Colin Nelson and freshman
Zack Benedict chipped in a point each on the night. Brommer picked up his second helper of the victory during the surge, while MacIntyre added an assist to what turned out to be the game-winning score.
All that offense by the Jackets was more than enough support for junior keeper
Brandon Daughtry, who improved to 2-0 on the season after stopping all four shots that were put on net by Greensburg. As a team, Waynesburg out-shot Pitt Greensburg by a 30-8 margin.
The Orange and Black will try to extend its season-opening win streak to three matches on Saturday, Sept. 7, when La Roche College comes to Wiley Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
