GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 11) – Trailing 2-0 at Thiel College on Saturday, the Waynesburg University men's soccer team looked like it was heading for its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss of the season. However, a furious Yellow Jacket rally that produced three second-half goals allowed the visiting team to pull out a 3-2 victory.
The Tomcats (2-10, 0-3) led 1-0 at halftime and doubled their advantage 10 minutes into the second period. Waynesburg (6-4-3, 2-0) kept its composure and struck back less than four minutes after Thiel's second-and-final goal to cut the Jacket deficit in half. Sophomore
Chad Palucka headed in his team's first goal off a free kick from senior
Nick Brommer in the game's 59
th minute.
Brommer scored the game-tying goal less than four minutes later when junior
Peter Byrnes did the honor of setting up the veteran standout for the game-tying goal in the 63
rd minute. The Yellow Jackets completed the comeback 15 minutes later when junior
Victor Browne pounded home the game-winning score. Sophomore
Zack Benedict assisted on the decisive tally during the 78:09 mark of the Waynesburg victory.
The game wound up being a lot closer than its statistics made it out to be. The visitors out-shot their hosts by a 27-to-10 margin and recorded 11 corner kicks to just a single try by the Tomcats.
The Yellow Jackets will look to extend their unbeaten streak to five games on Tuesday, Oct. 14, when they host Bethany for another PAC contest. Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
