WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 14) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team extended its undefeated streak to five matches and jumped to 3-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Tuesday night. The Yellow Jackets scored two late goals to snap a 1-1 second half tie and defeat visiting Bethany 3-1.
Waynesburg (7-4-3, 3-0) opened the scoring less than two minutes into the contest when junior
Victor Browne was set up by senior
Nick Brommer for the game's opening goal. Bethany (1-12, 0-4) responded with its one score of the night just three minutes later to tie the score at 1-1.
The Yellow Jackets waited over 60 minutes before regaining the lead, which they did when sophomore
Josh Hennigh tallied the eventual game winner off an assist from senior
Ray Melone in the 66
th minute of play. Waynesburg added an important insurance goal at the 71:42 mark of the contest courtesy of Browne, who was set up by both Brommer and senior
Cody Lemke.
Senior goalkeeper
Brandon Daughtry picked up the win after playing all 90 minutes in net. He made three saves to back up a Jacket attack that racked up 26 shots and 12 corner kicks.
Waynesburg will try to go to 4-0 in PAC play on Saturday, Oct. 18, when the Jackets welcome Thomas More to John F. Wiley Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
