Men's soccer battles with Westminster

Yellow Jackets come up just short in matchup of top teams in the PAC

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Oct. 22) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team traveled to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania on Wednesday night to take on Westminster in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown. Waynesburg came up just short of a big conference victory after falling 2-1 to the Titans.

Westminster (9-7-1, 5-1) opened up the scoring with a goal in the 13th minute of play. The Jackets (7-6-3, 3-2) rebounded with a tally of their own 25:49 into the night. Senior Cody Lemke recorded his team-leading eighth goal of 2014 after being set up by junior teammate Brio Davis. The score remained tied at 1-1 for over 60 minutes of game time, before the Titans scored the eventual game winner with just under four minutes showing on the game clock.

Waynesburg senior goalkeeper Brandon Daughtry started and played all 90 minutes against Westminster. The veteran standout made four saves, all of which came in the second half.

The Jackets get back to competition on Friday, Oct. 24, when Washington & Jefferson comes to John F. Wiley Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
