BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Oct. 29) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team took a huge step towards qualifying for the four-team Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets got a shutout performance from senior goalkeeper
Brandon Daughtry and scored on both their shots on goal to upset home-standing Geneva 2-0.
The victory moved Waynesburg (8-6-1, 4-2-1) into a tie for fourth place in the PAC standings with the Golden Tornadoes (9-5-3, 4-2-1). However, the shutout win on Wednesday gives the Jackets the head-to-head tiebreaker with Geneva. Both teams have one game remaining on their respective regular season schedules.
Sophomore
Chad Palucka notched the eventual game-winning goal 2:33 into the contest after the ball hit off a Geneva defender. Waynesburg got a valuable insurance score during the 79
th minute of action when junior
Victor Browne was set up by senior
Cody Lemke and sophomore
Zack Benedict.
Daughtry was a wall in net for the Orange and Black. He made seven saves in the win to notch his third shutout of 2014. His blanking of Geneva came despite Waynesburg being out-shot 16-to-four in total shots.
A trip to the PAC postseason will be on the line Friday night when the Jackets host Saint Vincent for senior day. A win over the Bearcats would assure the Orange and Black the fourth-and-final spot in the conference postseason.
