WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 31) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team qualified for the four-team Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) championship tournament on Friday night by defeating visiting Saint Vincent 3-1 under cold, rainy conditions at John F. Wiley Stadium. This will be Waynesburg's first trip to the postseason tournament since the PAC went to a four-team format in 2005.
The Yellow Jackets (9-6-4, 5-2-1) scored the game's first goal when junior
Victor Browne beat the Bearcat (6-14, 2-6) keeper during the 13
th minute of action. Senior
Nick Brommer assisted on the tally. The home team maintained its one-goal advantage all the way until the 78:54 mark of the contest, when Jacket sophomore
Chad Palucka found the back of the net on what wound up being his third game-winning goal of 2014. Browne notched a helper on the score.
Saint Vincent broke up the shutout bid just 34 seconds later to trim Waynesburg's advantage to 2-1. However,
James Sneed, one of 12 senior night honorees before game time, tacked on a crucial insurance goal when he posted an unassisted score that bumped the Jacket lead to final score of 3-1.
Senior goalkeeper
Brandon Daughtry notched the win in net after posting five saves while playing 88:16. Fellow senior Cameron Allen worked the final 1:44 of the night.
The Yellow Jackets will learn who they are playing in the first round of the postseason after Saturday's PAC action is completed.
