WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 17) – Pitching was the story of Thursday's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader between the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets and Saint Vincent College Bearcats. The two teams totaled just five runs in a two-game split. Waynesburg (8-20, 4-10) scored two runs early and earned a 2-1 victory in game one, before Saint Vincent (21-11, 7-7) posted a 2-0 shutout win in game two.

After senior right fielder Jenna Dorazio gunned down a Saint Vincent runner at the plate in the top of the first inning to preserve a run, the Jacket offense posted two scores in the bottom frame. Dorazio and fellow senior Madison Presto posted back-to-back hits with one out on the board. Sophomore designated player Katey Potopenko and junior first baseman Haley Payne each laced RBI singles to give their team a 2-0 lead.

Saint Vincent picked up its run on a solo homerun in the top of the third inning. The Bearcats threatened multiple times throughout the remainder of the early contest, but were unable to push the tying run across home plate.

Junior pitcher Jenn Lingg worked four innings, allowing just one run on five hits and also recording two strikeouts to score her first win of the season in the circle. Senior right-hander Carrie Maier earned her second save of the year after tossing three scoreless innings of relief.

The strong pitching continued in game two as the two teams posted nothing but zeroes over the first three innings. Saint Vincent got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning and added an insurance run in the sixth.

Dorazio, senior Jasmine Blackwell and senior Ashley Clark each tallied a hit for the Jacket offense.  Sophomore pitcher Stephanie Kotomski was the tough-luck loser in the circle. She worked five innings and surrendered just one run on five hits.

Waynesburg is off until Tuesday, April 22, when the Jackets hit the road to face Washington and Jefferson. First pitch in the last PAC road doubleheader of the season is slated for 3:30 p.m.
