Box Score

DEFIANCE, Ohio (Aug. 30) – Brad Heethuis made his debut as a collegiate head coach on Friday during Defiance College's Purple and Gold Classic. His Waynesburg men's soccer team took an early 1-0 lead, but had to settle for a 1-1 double-overtime tie with the host Yellow Jackets.

Sophomore Josh Hennigh tallied the Orange and Black's first score of 2014 when he took a feed from senior Ray Melone and found the back of the net during the 32nd minute of play. Defiance responded with the equalizer just after the start of the 60th minute.

Senior Seth Polk got the start in net and played 65 minutes. Junior Nathan Ribar recorded the final 45 minutes and stopped the only shot on goal he faced.

After 90 minutes of regulation time, the two Yellow Jacket squads played 20 minutes of overtime before settling for the tie. Waynesburg out-shot the opposition by a 16-to-seven margin, including a 3-0 edge in extra time. The game was made even longer by the seven yellow cards and one red card being issued on the day.

The Orange and Black are back in action on Saturday, Aug. 30, with a matchup against the Illinois Institute of Technology. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
