Box Score WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 27) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 3-2 home victory over Bluffton (Ohio) University on Saturday. All three of the Yellow Jackets' goals were scored by members of the 2014 freshman class.
Nikki Davis got things going for the Jackets (4-3-2) with a goal in the eighth minute that was assisted upon by junior
Karleigh Murphey. Murphey notched assist number two of the day when she set up
Sara Hackman for a tally just before the 26-minute mark of the first half.
Waynesburg got the eventual game-winner in the second half courtesy of an unassisted goal from
Melanie Burchfield. The score came in the 62
nd minute of play, before the Beavers (2-6) twice found the back of the goal over the final 25 minutes of play.
Junior
Ciara Scott started in net and made one save while playing in the first half. Freshman
Heather Fraser played the final 45 minutes and stopped three-of-five shots on net.
The Yellow Jackets out-shot Bluffton 14-to-eight on the afternoon. The Beavers countered with seven corner kicks to Waynesburg's two.
Saturday's win was the first of four-straight home games for the Orange and Black. Waynesburg returns to John F. Wiley Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 30, when Point Park comes to town. Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
