Match Results (.pdf) WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. (Nov. 12) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team traveled to West Liberty University on Thursday night for a dual match with Division II Hilltoppers. After building an early lead, the Yellow Jackets struggled through the middleweights en route to a 20-13 loss.
Waynesburg (0-2) nearly swept through the first three weight classes by picking up wins at 133 and 141 pounds. Sophomore
Tristan Buxton battled in the 125-pound weight class, but came up just short in a 3-2 loss. Sophomore
Zach Swarrow made his season debut at 133 pounds and tied the match with a decisive 6-1 victory. Junior
Filippo Crivelli gave Waynesburg its first-and-only lead of the day thanks to a 16-5 major decision at 141 pounds.
Unfortunately, West Liberty (1-3) won four-straight bouts, including two by major decision, to build up a 17-7 lead after seven bouts. The Jackets closed the night with wins in two of the final three weights. Junior
Ryan Shank improved to 2-0 in duals with an 8-3 triumph at 184 pounds. Freshman heavyweight
Jake Evans connected on a late takedown in the third period to seal up a match-ending 9-5 victory.
The Jackets return to tournament on competition on Saturday, Nov. 14, when they head to the Washington & Jefferson Invitational. Start time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
