Box Score 2 TITUSVILLE, Fla. (March 10) – The Waynesburg University softball team played its second doubleheader in as many days at the Cocoa Expo Spring Games on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets faced off against Bloomfield College and played well through both contests before dropping them by the final scores of 9-7 and 6-5.
The Jacket (0-4) offense was led by senior
Haley Payne, who went a combined four-for-six with a homerun, two walks, two RBI and four runs scored. Payne really shined in game one against the Bears (8-2), when she went a perfect three-for-three at the plate with a walk, an RBI and three runs scored.
Sophomore catcher
Mackenzie Smith added a two-for-four showing at the dish in the opener, while sophomore infielder
Ashley Demarco swiped two bases. Junior
Jessica Dorazio smacked a two-run single in game one, as Waynesburg cranked out eight hits in the loss. Junior pitcher
Cameron Grimes took the loss in the circle.
Game two saw Payne tee off on Waynesburg's first homerun of the season, a solo shot. Other highlights included Demarco going two-for-four with a single and a double and freshman
Amanda Brown connecting on an RBI double. Junior pitcher
Stephanie Kotomski suffered the pitching defeat.
The Jackets will look to take another step forward under first-year head coach
Richele Hall on Wednesday, March 11, when they tangle with Penn State Hazleton. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.
