WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 1) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team opened the 2015 season against a nationally decorated opponent from Kenyon College. The Yellow Jackets tangled with the ninth-ranked Lords and came up on the wrong end of a 3-0 final score.
Kenyon (1-0), which reached the quarterfinals of the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament, tallied the eventual game-winning goal during the 21
st minute of action. The visitors tacked on insurance goals during the 25
th and 31
st minutes to close out the win.
One positive that came out of the evening was the play of freshman goalkeeper
James Snyder, who subbed into the game after the halftime break. The rookie from Gastonville, Pa. stopped all seven shots on goal he faced and turned away a penalty shot.
The Jackets return to action on Friday, Sept. 4, when they travel to a tournament at Alfred University. Waynesburg faces Alfred State College to open the two-day event.
