Things to Watch For:
- Waynesburg faces its most familiar rival on Saturday when it travels to Geneva. This will be the 79th meeting of the two programs. The rivalry, which ran from 1908 until 1991, was on hiatus until its renewal in 2007. That year, Geneva made the move from the NAIA to NCAA Division III and the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
Â
- If Saturday's game comes down to special teams, the Yellow Jackets would appear to have the advantage. The Jackets currently rank first in the PAC in kickoff return average (28.4 yards per return), while the Golden Tornadoes are 11th with an 11.2 ypr average. Senior Willie Leavell is tops in the conference with a 28.7 ypr average. The Jackets sit in the middle of the pack in terms of punt returns (5.2 ypr), while Geneva has the rare negative return average (-0.5 ypr).
Â
- Waynesburg freshman quarterback Jake Dougherty and his receivers need to be on alert, as Geneva's secondary leads the PAC in interceptions with six by five different players.
Â
- The Jacket defense has not only been one of the best units in the conference in terms of its work on third down, but one of the best in the country. Waynesburg's 18.2 percent conversion allowance on third down is the 10th lowest in all of Division III.
Â
- If the Golden Tornadoes can get the ball inside Waynesburg's 20-yard-line, there is a good chance they will come away with points. The Yellow Jackets have allowed three scores (two touchdowns, one field goal) on three trips into the red zone by the opposition. However, the three attempts inside the 20 by Waynesburg opponents, ties for the third-lowest total in the PAC.
