WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 19) – The Waynesburg University men' soccer team welcomed Saint Vincent to John F. Wiley Stadium on Wednesday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown. The Yellow Jackets emerged victorious from the matchup by a 2-0 finals score.
Waynesburg (4-10-1, 2-3-1) grabbed a huge swing in momentum in the final few seconds of the first half. Just when it looked like the game was going to halftime in a scoreless tie, senior
Joey Buchanan beat the Saint Vincent (2-13-0, 1-5-0) keeper to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Freshman
Micah Charlick notched an important insurance goal in the 66
th minute by taking a feed from junior
Zach Mitschke and scoring his second tally of 2016. The assist was Mitschke's first of the fall.
Those two goals were more than enough support for sophomore
James Snyder, who recorded his third shutout of the year. Snyder stopped all six shots on goal in the victory.
Waynesburg out-shot the Bearcats by a 20-10 differential. The Jackets also held a slim 8-6 edge in shots on goal. The home team posted a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Yellow Jackets play their final two games of the season on the road at PAC opponents. The first of those matchups comes on Wednesday, Oct. 26, against Grove City. Start time is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
