All-Time Series: Waynesburg leads 18-12-4
First Meeting: 1929 (Waynesburg won 19-6)
Last Meeting: 2015 (Saint Vincent won 28-21)
Â
Saint Vincent's victory over Waynesburg in 2015 ended a three-game losing streak to the Yellow Jackets.
Â
- Saturday's showdown in Latrobe will feature two transfers as the starting quarterbacks. On Saint Vincent's side of the line is veteran senior Derek Stewart, who has started for three different teams. On the other is the duo of freshmen Tyler Perone and Aaron Jenkins. All signs point to Perone opposing Stewart, after the Seton Hill College transfer threw for 401 yards and two touchdowns last week against Thiel.
Â
- Waynesburg freshman kicker Mike Ryhal pulled in three individual weekly awards after a big night at Thiel. He was named Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Special Teams Player of the Week, Corvias Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Special Teams Player of the Week and Corvias ECAC Division III South Rookie of the Week after compiling 10 points, averaging over 46 yards per kickoff and recording a special teams tackles against the Tomcats. Ryhal made all four of his PAT attempts and went two-for-two in field goal tries (20,30).
Â
- Ryhal's breakout performance helped Waynesburg move up the PAC rankings in field goal kicking. Waynesburg has made the sixth-most field goals in the league (four), and remains one of just three teams that haven't missed a field goal attempt (14-14).
Â
- Both Waynesburg and Saint Vincent have struggled to run the football in 2016. The Bearcats' 123.2 yards per game average ranks ninth in the PAC, while the Jackets hold down the number-spot (74.4 ypg).
Â
- Waynesburg continues to stand atop the PAC kick return rankings (23.4 ypr), while Saint Vincent comes in ranked ninth in the league (18.7 ypr).
Â
- Both secondaries will be looking to move up the PAC standings for interceptions. Saint Vincent has picked off four passes in 2016 (10th place), while the Jackets are behind the Green and Gold with two interceptions.
Â
- The Saint Vincent offense is in the top half of the PAC rankings in terms of third down conversions (41.4 percent, fifth place). Waynesburg on the other hand, is ranked 11th at 28.2 percent.
Â
- Both Waynesburg and Saint Vincent will be looking to improve their efforts when it comes to controlling the clock. The Jackets 27:37 per game average in ninth in the conference, while Saint Vincen'ts average of 25:54 puts it in 11th place.
Â
- The Bearcats' biggest strength is its proficiency in the red zone. Saint Vincent is the top team in the league with an 88 percent success rate inside the opposing 20-yard-line. Of their 22 scores in 25 tries, 20 of them have been touchdowns.
Â
- Conversely, the Waynesburg defense has been among the stingiest in terms of keeping teams off the scoreboard in the red zone. The Jackets are allowing the opposing to score just 71.9 percent of its attempts.
