Men's tennis opens spring season

Forfeits too much to overcome in 5-4 loss

Match Results

CRESSON, Pa. (Feb. 20) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a road match at Mt. Aloysius on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets won the majority of the contested flights, but three forfeits played the defining role in a 5-4 victory for the Mounties.

Waynesburg (0-4) was led by freshman Jonah Cooper who went 2-0 on the day. Cooper rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win at second singles after teaming up with sophomore Adam McKnight for an 8-1 triumph at number-two doubles.

The Jackets were also victorious at first and third singles, respectively, where junior Timothy Harris and freshman Joshua Denham notched solo wins. Despite yielding three points to the opposition, Wayneburg still came within one game of pulling out a match victory. Harris and Denham battled at first doubles, but came up just short in a 9-8 loss.

The Orange and Black is scheduled to return to action on Friday, Feb. 26, with a road trip to Pitt Greensburg. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
