(March 22) – Despite competing with just five players, the Waynesburg University men's tennis team gave Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC)-leading Saint Vincent a fight during Tuesday's road Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match. The Yellow Jackets won four-of-six contested matches, but dropped a 5-4 final score to the Bearcats.
Waynesburg (1-7, 0-1) split the two contested doubles matches. Freshman
Jonah Cooper teamed up with sophomore
Adam McKnight for an 8-2 win at the number-two spot. Saint Vincent (3-2, 3-0) claimed an 8-3 triumph at the number-one spot and picked up a forfeit at the third flight.
The Jackets proceeded to go 3-2 in contested singles competition. Cooper improved to 8-0 as a collegiate singles player by grinding out a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 triumph at number-two singles. Freshman
Josh Denham and McKnight followed with straight-set wins at third and fourth singles, respectively. The match was ultimately decided with forfeits at the number-five and number-six flights, respectively.
The Jackets return to competition on Monday, March 28, when they head to Division II Fairmont State. Start time of the contest is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
