ALLIANCE, Ohio (Sept. 27) – After falling behind 3-0 at halftime, the Waynesburg University men's soccer team battled back in period number two at the University of Mount Union. The Jackets pulled to within a single goal of forcing overtime, but couldn't quite complete the comeback in a 3-2 loss to the Purple Raiders.
Mount Union (3-3-3) held its comfortable hat trick lead all the way until the 79
th minute, when freshman
Micah Charlick scored his first collegiate goal. The Jackets (2-7) got some help from their hosts after Mount Union gave up an own goal with just under nine minutes remaining in the contest.
Waynesburg managed to get off two more shots before time expired, one of which was by Charlick, but the visiting team wasn't able to find the back of the net for a third time. The Jackets gave Mount Union a battled, despite outshot by a 13-to-five margin.
Sophomore
James Snyder started in goal and allowed stopped three-of-six shots on goal over 71:20 of play. Freshman
Dillion Charlton saw his first action between the posts this season and stopped both shots he faced over the final 18:20 of play.
Waynesburg opens Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Saturday, Oct. 1, with its senior day game against Bethany. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
