Men's soccer wins PAC shootout

Jackets pull out 4-3 victory over Westminster

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 3) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team hosted Westminster on Tuesday night for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The two offenses took center stage at John F. Wiley Stadium with the Yellow Jackets pulling out a 4-3 victory.

Things didn't start well for Waynesburg (4-4-2, 2-0), as Westminster (5-5-1, 0-1) jumped ahead 2-0 after the first 18:49 of play. However, the Yellow Jackets didn't give up after a slow start. In fact, the Jackets were about to unleash their most impressive offensive outburst of the season.

The home team began its comeback in the 20th minute of action when freshman Daniel Hott got Waynesburg on the board with his first collegiate goal. Just under six minutes later, the Jackets tied the game at 2-2 thanks to sophomore Justin Buberl. Freshman Tyler Sisler set up the score with his team-leading seventh assist of the season. It was Buberl's team-leading fifth goal of 2017.

After going into halftime with the score knotted at 2-2, Buberl gave his team its first lead of the night in the 54th minute. Sisler notched his PAC-best eighth helper of the year on the score.

The eventual game-winning goal was posted early in the 72nd minute by junior Sam Almeter, who cleanly handled a cross from freshman Thomas Drake to put the home team up 4-2. Almeter's strike was answered less than a minute later by the Titans' final goal, which came in the 73rd minute of play.

Both teams attempted 16 total shots and six shots on goal during the match. The contest proved to be a physical one, as the conference rivals combined for 32 fouls, four yellow cards and two red cards.

Its most recent win was the third-straight for Waynesburg. The last time the Jackets won at least three-straight decisions came back in 2014. The team's fourth overall victory matches its win total from 2016.

After replacing an injured James Snyder, who started the game in goal, freshman Adam Dolan got the win after making three saves over 83:43 of action.

The Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 7, when they travel to Thomas More. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
