Despite being centered almost solely on its running game, the Geneva offense has been one of the most productive in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Heading into Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes rank fourth in the PAC in scoring offense (29.8 ppg) and total offense (407.8). Not surprisingly, Geneva is tops in the league in rushing yards per game (353.2). That average is also good for fourth in all of Division III.
Â
The focal point of the Geneva rushing attack is junior fullback Trewon Marshall. Marshall leads the PAC and ranks third in the nation with 842 yards on the ground. His 210.5 yards per game average bumps him up to second in the country, while his nine touchdowns on the ground are good enough to put him in a tie for eighth place in Division III.
Â
The number-two weapon in the GT ground attack is senior quarterback Brian Stafford. Stafford's 79.8 rushing yards per game average is tied for eighth in the conference.
Â
Any time a team travels to Reeves Field in Beaver Falls, it can expect plenty of crowd noise. The facility, which boasts the largest capacity of any in the PAC (6,500) is traditionally one of the best attended in all of Division III. In two home games this season, an average of 4,020 people have showed up to watch the Golden Tornadoes. Ironically, Geneva lost both of those contests, but is 2-0 on the road.
Â
Waynesburg squares off with its most commonly faced opponent in the 122-year history of the program. Saturday marks the 80th meeting of the two rivals. The Yellow Jackets have put together a 7-3 record against the Golden Tornados since the rivalry was renewed 10 year ago following Geneva's exit from the NAIA.
Â
Both Waynesburg and Geneva are in the top half of the PAC when it comes to stopping the opposition on third down. The Yellow Jackets rank third in the league, giving up first downs 35 percent of the time, while the Golden Tornadoes are allowing conversions at a 36 percent clip.
Â
The Jackets and Golden Tornadoes both rank in the top five of the league in terms of fewest penalty yards allowed. Geneva's 35.5 yards per game ranks second in the league, while Waynesburg averages 48.2 per contest.
Â
Saturday's game features a slew of the top tacklers in the PAC. Waynesburg's
John-Glen Davis and
Brent Blacharczyk rank fourth and fifth, respectively in terms of tackles per game. Geneva's Joe Shively, Torrin Sallis and Bryan Weyant hold down spots two, eight and nine on the list.
