Penn State Altoona Results
MARIETTA, Ohio (March 25) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team wrapped up its stay at the two-day Beren Tennis Invitational, which was hosted by Marietta. The Yellow Jackets defeated Muskingum 6-3, before falling 8-1 to Penn State Altoona.
Sophomores
Jonah Cooper and
Josh Denham led the charge for Waynesburg (3-8) against the Muskies (0-5). The second-year pair both went 2-0 on the day, with Cooper scoring a win at first singles and Denham doing the same at the number-two spot. Both individuals won in straight sets. They got the match rolling with an 8-0 triumph at first doubles.
First-year Jacket
Jordan Pastoria also went 2-0 in the victory. Pastoria notched a hard fought 6-2, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8) victory at number-three singles after teaming up with freshman
Tanner McKnight for an 8-2 win at second doubles.
Freshman
James Zeremenko added a 6-0, 6-3 win at sixth singles to conclude Waynesburg's second triumph over Muskingum this season.
Waynesburg's run at the event ended with its match against Penn State Altoona (3-3). Denham added one final singles victory to his weekend, which came 6-4, 6-3 at number-two doubles.
Cooper won the first set of his number-one singles contest against PSA, before falling in three sets. Waynesburg also suffered disappointing 8-6 losses at both first and second doubles.
The Jackets open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Tuesday, March 28, with a home match against Thiel. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
