WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 1) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team braved cold, wet conditions to host Westminster for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match on Saturday. Playing in the less-than-perfect conditions proved to be worth the hassle for the Yellow Jackets, who picked up a 6-3 victory over the Titans.
Waynesburg (5-8, 2-1) started its day by winning two-of-three doubles matches. Sophomores
Jonah Cooper and
Josh Denham got things rolling with an 8-6 victory at the number-one spot. Junior
Adam McKnight and senior
Jordan Pastoria made it two in a row by downing their opponents at the number-two spot 8-5.
Cooper and McKnight completed 2-0 days with straight-set singles victories to put Waynesburg up 3-2. The Yellow Jackets closed out the win over the Titans (0-8, 0-2) with triumphs at the number-five and number-six slots. Freshman
Tanner McKnight was victorious 6-3, 6-1, while freshman
Paul Zalakar did the same by a 6-4, 6-2 tally.
Saturday's win marked the first time the Jackets have posted back-to-back victories this year. They will go for three in a row on Tuesday, April 4, when the Orange and Black head to Washington & Jefferson. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
