HUNTINGDON, Pa. (Sept. 1) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team traveled to Juniata to open the 2017 season against the Eagles. The Yellow Jackets came back from an early deficit to earn a 1-1 double-overtime tie.
Juniata (0-0-1) opened the scoring with a goal in the 12
th minute of play. That was the last point allowed by Waynesburg (0-0-1) junior goalkeeper
James Snyder, who made three saves over a complete-game effort in net.
The Yellow Jacket tallied the equalizer in the 50
th minute of action when freshman
Cam Sutherland fed sophomore
Nate Biondi for his first goal of the season. That score came on one of four second-half shots for the Jackets.
Waynesburg controlled the pace of play in extra time, as they out-shot the opposition 4-0. Three of those attempts came in the second overtime period.
The Jackets conclude a busy season-opening weekend tomorrow, when they travel to Penn State Altoona to face the Lions. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
