Men's soccer opens 2017 season

Jackets play Juniata to 1-1 tie

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (Sept. 1) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team traveled to Juniata to open the 2017 season against the Eagles. The Yellow Jackets came back from an early deficit to earn a 1-1 double-overtime tie.

Juniata (0-0-1) opened the scoring with a goal in the 12th minute of play. That was the last point allowed by Waynesburg (0-0-1) junior goalkeeper James Snyder, who made three saves over a complete-game effort in net.

The Yellow Jacket tallied the equalizer in the 50th minute of action when freshman Cam Sutherland fed sophomore Nate Biondi for his first goal of the season. That score came on one of four second-half shots for the Jackets.

Waynesburg controlled the pace of play in extra time, as they out-shot the opposition 4-0. Three of those attempts came in the second overtime period.

The Jackets conclude a busy season-opening weekend tomorrow, when they travel to Penn State Altoona to face the Lions. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
