ALTOONA, Pa. (Sept. 2) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team picked up its first win of the year, thanks to a 1-0 shutout of Penn State Altoona on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets went 1-0-1 in a pair of games away from home.
A pair of freshmen combined to provide the game's only goal. Freshman
Tyler Sisler set up fellow rookie
Thomas Drake for the day's only tally, which came late in the 31
st minute of action.
That score was enough support for a trio of Waynesburg goalkeepers, who combined for the shutout. Junior starter
James Snyder stopped all five shots he faced during the first half. Freshmen
Adam Dolan and
Daniel Brode combined to play the entirety of the second half. Dolan turned aside one shot on goal, before Brode notched two saves over the final 25:06 on the pitch.
The Jackets posted a slim 17-14 edge in total shots, but had to weather eight Lion (0-2) corner kicks. Waynesburg took just two attempts from the corner flags during the victory.
The Orange and Black play a third-straight road game on Tuesday, Sept. 5, with a trip to Franciscan. Start time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
