WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 23) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team ended the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule on Saturday by playing a home tri-match against Washington & Jefferson and Marietta. The Yellow Jackets fell 7-2 to W&J and downed the Pioneers 8-1.
Waynesburg (2-2) opened its day against the Presidents (3-0). W&J got things going by taking all three doubles matches. The home team picked up its first victory at second singles thanks to junior
Josh Denham, who scored a 6-3, 6-1 win. The Jackets' other triumph came at the number-four spot. Senior
Andrew Brunette did the honors to the tune of a 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 final score.
The Orange and Black got off to a fast start and never looked back against Marietta (0-2). Waynesburg swept all three doubles matches. Denham teamed with classmate
Jonah Cooper at the number-one spot and put together an 8-5 final score. Senior

Tanner McKnight battled at second doubles and pulled out an 8-8 (7-4) nail biter. Sophomore

Brian Drake completed the sweep with an 8-5 victory at third doubles.
The Jackets made sure to seal up the win early by taking the first five singles flights. Cooper slugged it out in a 6-4, 4-6 (10-7) number-one thriller, before Denham cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at the second spot.
Adam McKnight sealed the win by rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 final score at third singles.
Tanner McKnight and Drake pulled out three-set victories at fourth and fifth singles, respectively.
With their fall schedule completed, the Waynesburg men won't return to the courts until Saturday, Feb. 17, when they head to Penn State Behrend.
