Jacket men tangle with Bethany

Waynesburg scores first but falls 2-1 to Bison

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 10) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team returned to John F. Wiley Stadium to face Presidents' Athletic Conference rival, Bethany College. The match was tied for the majority of the evening, until the Bison added a late goal and won by the final of 2-1.

Waynesburg (4-8, 1-2) got the scoring started in the 21st minute, as sophomore forward Cam Sutherland buried a 15-yard cross from fellow sophomore Daniel Hott. The goal was Sutherland's second of the season while Hott collected his third assist.

Bethany (5-7-2, 2-1) tied the score eight minutes later off a bouncing ball in the box that found its way to a Bison and was buried into the back of the net. The score remained deadlocked for the next 57 minutes. Unfortunately, the visiting team was able to tally the eventual game-winning score in the 85th minute and then hold off the home squad to take the victory.

The Bison outshot the Jackets 12-4, and held a four-to-one edge in shots on goal. Fouls proved costly as Bethany's game-winning goal came off a free kick after the Jackets were whistled by the official. Waynesburg committed 15 fouls while the Bison were charged with eight.

The Yellow Jackets hit the road for their next match on Saturday, October 13, when they face the Thiel College Tomcats. First kick is slated for 3:30 p.m.
