GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 13) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team traveled north to Thiel for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown with the Tomcats. The Yellow Jackets unleashed an offensive barrage that overcame a halftime deficit and led to a 2-1 victory.
The Tomcats (5-9-1, 1-3-1) opened the scoring in the 38th minute and took their 1-0 lead into the locker room. The home team stayed ahead of the Orange and Black (5-8-0, 2-2-0) until the 61st minute, when senior Tyler Sisler found a soft spot inside the goal box and buried a pass from junior Nate Biondi to tie the game at 1-1.
With time winding down and the contest seemingly headed for overtime, Sisler set up junior Justin Buberl for a header off a corner kick that resulted in the eventual game-winning goal early in the 85th minute.
The Yellow Jackets uncorked 29 shots in the victory, while holding Thiel to just four attempts. Waynesburg also held a sizeable 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Jackets also piled up 10 corner kicks to the Tomcats' lone attempt from the flags.
Freshman Jonathan Campbell got the win in goal after making two saves over the final 79:52 of competition. He replaced sophomore starter Adam Dolan, who didn't face a shot on goal over 10:08 of action.
The Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 20, when they travel to Grove City. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
