Series Breakdown
All-Time Series: Carnegie Mellon/Carnegie Tech (4-10-1)
First Meeting: 1907 (Carnegie Tech 17-0)
Last Meeting: 2017 (Carnegie Mellon 30-20)

Saturday could feature a matchup of the PAC's top five running backs. Carnegie Mellon senior Rory Hubbard is ranked fourth in the conference in yards per game (96.7 yards per game), while Waynesburg junior Chad Walker is fifth with 80.8 yards per contest. However, Walker is way ahead in total yards (404-290).

Hubbard has also proven his worth as a kick returner, leading the PAC in yards per return (33.7). The senior standout's season has been highlighted by a 95-yard return for a touchdown in the Tartans' 42-27 win over Saint Vincent. His effectiveness on both offense and defense has allowed Hubbard to take the top spot in terms of all-purpose yardage (192 ypg).

Senior quarterback Alex Cline's 259.3 yards of total offense per game has him third in the PAC standings.

CMU junior Willie Richter has emerged as one of the top receivers in the league. He is currently second in the PAC standings at 101.3 yards per game. Richter has pulled in 24 catches for 405 yards over four contests.

While Hubbard is at the top of the PAC kick return list, Richter is near the top of the standings in terms of punt return average. His 11.8 ypr average is good for second in the league.

Both team's kicking games have been turned over to freshmen in 2018. Waynesburg's Garrett Horne currently leads the PAC in field goals made (four-of-six) and is fourth among league kickers in total scoring with 19 points. Carnegie Mellon's Brandon Nguyen is fifth in the conference 18 total points.

Moving to defense, few teams in the PAC have been as effective at forcing fumbles as the Tartans. Five different CMU defenders have knocked the ball free from opposing players in just four games. Three of those loose balls have been recovered by the Tartans.

Junior defensive backs Anthony Kennon and Brennan Sefick have both been outstanding in pass defense for their respective teams. Kennon has broken up six passes and intercepted a seventh for Carnegie Mellon, while Sefick has seven breakups and a pick for the Yellow Jackets.

Saturday marks a meeting of the most tenured head coach in the PAC and the most recent hire in the league. Carnegie Mellon's Rich Lackner is in his 33rd season as the leader  of the Tartans, while Waynesburg's Chris Smithley is in his second as the leader of the program. He was interim head coach last year and is in his first season since having the interim tag removed.

Saturday's game is the focal point of Waynesburg's 2018 homecoming festivities. Last year's 21-14 loss to Grove City snapped the Jackets' seven-game winning streak on the big day.
