Addy Knetzer achieved another milestone in her memorable Yellow Jacket career during Saturday's game at Thomas More. Her final rebound of the day, her sixth of the contest, gave Knetzer her 1,000
th in a Jacket uniform as the Saints defeated Waynesburg 107-62.
After falling behind 6-2 early in the game, Waynesburg (13-10, 9-7) briefly gained the lead at 8-6 thanks to a 6-0 spurt that was capped by a Knetzer layup. Thomas More (22-1, 16-0) responded by scoring the final 14 points of the opening quarter.
The Saint lead grew to 26-8 early in the second, before Jacket junior point guard
Monica Starre ended the run with a jump shot three minutes into the second period. By the time the first half came to a close, the home team went into the locker room with a 46-27 lead, before putting the game out of reach in the second half.
"This was obviously a disappointing result. We struggled early with some turnovers and gave them a big lead," said Waynesburg head coach
Sam Jones. "I thought we had some moments where we played well, but it wasn't enough today."
Junior
Anna Bartman and freshman
Kerri Bungard came off the bench to lead Waynesburg in scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Starre and Knetzer led the starters with nine and eight points, respectively.
Seniors
Mackenna Drazich and
Rachel Eng tied for the game lead with four assists.
Waynesburg gets back to action on Wednesday, Feb. 14, when it travels to Washington & Jefferson. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
