ERIE, Pa. (Feb. 17) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team split a tri-match on Saturday to open the spring portion of its 2017-18 schedule. The Yellow Jackets defeated Pitt Bradford 7-2 and fell 9-0 to Penn State Behrend.
Waynesburg (3-3) swept the three doubles matches against Bradford (0-5). Juniors
Jonah Cooper and
Josh Denham got things rolling with an 8-5 win at the number-one spot. Seniors
Andy Brunette and
Adam McKnight followed suit by downing their opponents 8-3 at second doubles. Sophomore
James Zeremenko and junior
Brian Drake completed the sweep with an 8-5 triumph at the number-four flight.
Denham, Brunette, McKnight and Zeremenko completed 2-0 days with victories in modified single-set single matches. Denham won 8-5 at second singles, while Brunette shut out his opponent 8-0 at the number-three spot. McKnight and Zeremenko won 8-5 at fourth and sixth singles, respectively.
McKnight nearly added a second singles win on Saturday, but came up just short in a 9-7 match at the number-four spot against Behrend (2-3).
The Jackets are off until Saturday, March 24, when they host Thomas More for the first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match of the season. Start time is scheduled for
