Jacket men finally get back to action

Waynesburg hosts Saint Vincent in PAC match

Match Results

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 5) – After nearly six weeks away from competition, the Waynesburg University men's tennis team finally returned to the courts on Thursday for its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match of the spring. The Yellow Jackets hosted Saint Vincent and fell by the final score of 6-3.

Things started well for the Jackets (3-4, 0-1), who won two of the three doubles flights against the Bearcats (4-5, 2-0). Juniors Jonah Cooper and Josh Denham teamed up for an 8-5 win at first doubles. After Saint Vincent rebounded with a win at the number-two spot, first-year competitors Brian Drake and Brett Thumm pulled out an 8-6 triumph at third doubles.

Unfortunately, SVC bounced back by taking five-of-six singles flights to wrap up the win. Senior Andy Brunette was victorious at number-three singles for the home team, taking the contest in straight sets (6-1, 6-3).

Waynesburg is back in action on Saturday, April 7, when it travels to Westminster for a PAC match with the Titans. Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
