WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Aug. 31) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer opened the season on the turf at John F. Wiley Stadium. After a hot start by the Yellow Jackets, Franciscan fought back and took the first game of the season for both teams by the final of 3-1.
The first goal of the Yellow Jackets' (0-1) young season was scored inside the first minute of the game as junior

Tyler Sisler. From there, both teams traded possessions for 40-plus minutes.
The Barons (1-0) evened the score right before the end of the half. Franciscan drew a penalty inside the box and received a penalty kick. Nick Miller took the kick and tied the game at 1-1. Waynesburg outshot Franciscan 7-6 over the first period, but the Jackets committed eight fouls compared to Franciscan's three.
In the second half, Franciscan took control with a goal in the 47th minute when JP Bobak scored on another penalty kick, making the score 2-1. Brennan McNamara recorded a valuable insurance goal to bring about the final score of 3-1.
Waynesburg returns to the pitch tomorrow evening as it takes on the La Roche College Redhawks. Start time for the game is slated for 7 p.m.
