Men's soccer falls in OT at Bethany

Yellow Jackets drop 2-1 final

BETHANY, W.Va. (Oct. 12) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team looked poised to run its current President's Athletic Conference (PAC) unbeaten streak to three games on Saturday, when the Yellow Jackets traveled to Bethany. Unfortunately, despite controlling the tempo for most of the contest, Waynesburg fell 2-1 in overtime to the Bison.

Bethany (2-10-0, 1-1-0) opened the scoring with a goal in the 14th minute. Waynesburg (3-7-2, 0-1-2) rebounded with the game-tying tally roughly three minutes before the end of the first half. Senior Nate Biondi (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) did the honors after being set up with an assist from sophomore Ryan McCann (Runcorn, England / Moon (Pa.)).

Despite almost constant offensive pressure from the Yellow Jackets that resulted in a 14-3 advantage in total shots in regulation, the game went into overtime tied at 1-1. After the Orange and Black ripped off four overtime shots and held Bethany to zero attempts, the game was still knotted at 1-1 and was sent into a second overtime.

The contest was ultimately decided in the 105th minute, where the home team was able to slip a golden goal past the Jackets for the victory. Waynesburg attempted the first three shots, including two on goal, of the second OT period, before the Bison found the back of the net.

The Jackets ended the game with a 21-4 advantage in total shots and a 10-4 edge in shots on goal. They also forced seven corner kicks, while the Bison attempted three.

Junior Adam Dolan (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) started and played all 105:42 in goal for Waynesburg. He made two saves in the conference setback.

The Jackets will look for their first PAC win of the season on Wednesday, when they travel to Washington & Jefferson. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
