Softball concludes spring trip

Jackets go 1-2 during Saturday in Myrtle Beach

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.. (March 9) – The Waynesburg University softball team ended its spring break trip to the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets went 1-2 over a trio of games in Myrtle Beach.
 
Waynesburg (2-6) started its day with a 9-1 loss to Guilford (9-1) before battling NAIA opponent West Virginia Tech (5-6) in a 3-2 setback. The Jackets ended its journey to the Palmetto State with a 3-2 win over Centenary.
 
Not all of the statistical information from the tripleheader, but sophomore Emma Kubalak (Spring Mills, Pa. / Penns Valley) picked up the victory in the circle against the Cyclones in an extra-inning contest. She scattered nine hits over eight innings to log the win.
 
Senior first baseman Alex Lawrence (Bridgeville, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) went two-for-four at the plate with a double, a homerun, two RBI and a run scored.
 
Senior leftfielder Cat Allstatt (Indianapolis, Ind. / Roncalli) posted a two-for-two effort at the plate against Guilford. Kubalak started and suffered the loss after working three innings in the circle. Senior Courtney Messenger (East Liverpool, Ohio / Beaver Local) was strong in relief, however. She allowed no runs on two hits over the final two innings of play.
 
The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, March 13, with a road trip to Penn State Beaver. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.
