HARRISBURG, Pa. (Aug. 31) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team completed a season-open weekend trip that sent them East for a pair of games on back-to-back dates. The Yellow Jackets faced off with Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday and struck first in the contest. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to secure victory as they fell 4-3 to the Lions.
Senior
Justin Buberl (Westminster, MD. / Westminster) opened the scoring in the 16
th minute, when he took a feed from freshman
David Brown (Seoul, South Korea / Yongsan International School of Seoul) and found the back of the net to give Waynesburg (0-2) a 1-0 advantage. PSU Harrisburg (1-1) rebounded with a pair of goals before the 20
th minute to take a 2-1 lead.
Waynesburg fired back to tie the score roughly 12 minutes later thanks to junior
Daniel Hott's (Cumberland, Md. / Fort Hill) first of the season, which came 31:45 into the contest. Buberl assisted on the game-tying goal for a three-point day.
After the two teams broke for halftime, the visitors regained the lead late in the 74
th minute thanks to the efforts of senior
Nate Kummer (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills). Kummer did it on his own with an unassisted tally that made the score 3-2 with 15:06 showing on the game clock.
Unfortunately, Harrisburg answered with a third goal of its own just shy of the 80-minute mark. The Blue and White logged the deciding score with three minutes remaining in regulation to pull out the win.
The Jackets were nothing if not efficient on offense, scoring their team hat trick on just four shots on goal. Junior
Adam Dolan (MCDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) started and played all 90 minutes in net for the visitors. He tallied five saves in his second start in as many games.
Waynesburg plays a third-straight road game on Tuesday, Sept. 3, when it heads to La Roche. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
