STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 18) – The Yellow Jacket men's soccer team faced off with Franciscan Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference affair. The team wasn't able to find the back of the net despite 14 shots (six on goal), as it fell to the Barons 3-0.
Waynesburg (2-5) dealt with a consistent offensive attack from Franciscan (4-1-1), which recorded 10 shots in the first half and 13 in the second half.
The Barons opened the scoring in the 13
th minute of the game on a penalty kick. Franciscan doubled its advantage in the 24
th minute. The home team maintained that 2-0 lead into and past halftime. Despite plenty of scoring chances from both sides, neither team scored in the second period until the Barons broke through for their final goal in the 86
th minute of play.
Junior forward
Cam Sutherland (Millville, Mass. / Whitinsville Christian) paced the Yellow Jackets in shots (four), while he and junior forward
Daniel Hott (Cumberland, Md. / Fort Hill) tied for the team lead in shots on goal (two). Junior goalkeeper
Adam Dolan (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) played the first 67:06 in net, allowing two goals and making six saves. Freshman goalie
Matthew Hilarzewski (Crafton, Pa. / Carlynton) finished the final 22:54 in net, allowing one goal.
Waynesburg is back in action this Saturday, Sept. 21, when it hosts Baldwin Wallace at John F. Wiley stadium. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
