Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Buberl lights up the scoreboard against UPG

Senior nets hat trick and picks up an assists in 4-1 victory

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 24) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team played host to Pitt Greensburg on Tuesday night. Senior Justin Buberl (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) put up some impressive offensive numbers in leading the Yellow Jackets to a 4-1 triumph over the visiting Bobcats.

Buberl tallied his first collegiate hat trick and added an assist on the Yellow Jackets' (3-6) other goal, giving him seven total points on the day. It didn't take long for him to get his impactful night going as he opened the scoring in the 16th minute to give his team a 1-0 lead. Senior Nate Kummer (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) set up the night's opening tally.

The eventual game winner was buried less than three minutes later at the 19:22 mark of the first period. The Orange and Black took that 2-0 lead into the locker room for halftime, but were far from done in terms of offense.

Six minute into the half, Buberl set up junior Daniel Hott (Cumberland, Md. / Fort Hill), who fired a bullet into the top-right corner of the goal to make the score 3-0. Buberl then capped his memorable effort just over two minutes later, when he struck from in close to make the score 4-0.

The only blemish on the night was a foul inside the 18-yard box that allowed Pitt Greensburg (1-6) to score on a penalty kick in the 66nd minute and break up the shutout.

Not surprisingly, the Jackets dominated the score sheet. They held a 27-7 advantage in total shots and put 13 of those tries on goal. UPG was held to just one shot on goal outside of the PK.

Waynesburg also attempted nine corner kicks, while the Bobcats logged a pair of attempts from the corner flag. The home team also kept itself in check with no cards and just six fouls.

The Yellow Jackets will look to carry the momentum of their most recent victory into Saturday when they open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play in Pittsburgh against Chatham. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
