WASHINGTON, Pa – (Oct. 13) The Waynesburg University men's soccer team traveled to Washington & Jefferson for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup with the Presidents. After falling into an early deficit, the Yellow Jackets attempted a late comeback, but it wasn't enough, as the home team picked up a 2-1 win.
W&J (3-6, 2-4) opened the scoring early in the fourth minute to take a 1-0 lead, which was also the tally at halftime. The host squad doubled its advantage in the 54th minute to 2-0. Waynesburg (1-11, 0-5) wasn't going away quietly, however, as it broke up the shutout midway through the second half.
Sophomore Tyler Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) found the back of the net in the 64th minute to cut W&J's lead in half. Unfortunately, the comeback try came up a goal short and the Presidents were able to run out the clock for the win. The Jackets totaled 17 shots on the night, nine of which were on goal. Sophomores Logan Corradi (Darlington, Pa. / Blackhawk) and Ben White (Bluefield, W.Va. / Graham) led the way for the Jackets in both shots and shots on goal with two each.
Sophomore goalkeeper Zach Burke (Bowie, Md. / Bowie) got the start in goal and was solid on the evening. He played all 90 minutes and tallied seven saves.
The Jackets will be back in action on Saturday, Oct 16, when they welcome conference opponent Westminster for a PAC contest. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
