LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 20) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team traveled to Saint Vincent on Wednesday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup against the Bearcats. The Yellow Jackets emphatically snapped out of an 11-game losing streak by shutting out SVC 2-0.
Waynesburg (2-12, 1-6) and Saint Vincent (2-13, 1-6) played to a 0-0 halftime tie. The Jackets broke up the shutout in the 52
nd minute thanks to freshman
Seth Massotti (Douglass, Mass. / Whitinsville Christian), who logged his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Sophomore
Ben White (Bluefield, W.Va. / Graham) picked up an assist on the eventual game winner.
The Jackets added an insurance goal in the 80
th minute courtesy of sophomore
Tyler Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom). It was Mohrbacher's second of the year and was set up by a Massotti pass.
The two goals were more than enough support for freshman
Michael Francus (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park), who recorded his first collegiate shutout by stopping all three shots on goal from Saint Vincent. Waynesburg countered with seven shots on goal and 18 total attempts.
The Jackets are back in action on Saturday, when they host Thiel for a senior night PAC showdown. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
