Wrestling competes at Ned McGinley Invitational

LaVanway goes 2-2 to pace Yellow Jackets

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Nov. 6) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team traveled to the Ned McGinley Invitational, which was hosted by King's College, on Saturday for its first tournament action of the season. The Yellow Jackets finished 14th in the 15-team field.
 
Waynesburg was led by junior Luke LaVanway (Monroe, Mich. / Mason), who advanced to the championship quarterfinals at 197 pounds. After winning his opening bout by 10-6 decision, LaVanway was knocked into consolations, where he went 1-1 with a major decision. LaVanway logged a 2-2 day overall.
 
First-year sophomore heavyweight Trent Patrick (Delmont, Pa. / Greensburg Salem) scored a third-period fall in his first collegiate match to highlight his day.
 
The Jackets open dual competition on Wednesday, Nov. 10, when they host Division II Shippensburg. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
